About

We are glad to announce a new release of openEyA version 1.0.2 available for free download!

openEyA is the Linux-based alternative to the automated EyA recording system also developed by the ICTP Science Dissemination Unit (SDU). openEyA integrates different technologies under Linux O.S. (Ubuntu) to synchronize:

  1. video in Flash format (to see whatever happens in front of a classroom), -see examples
  2. high resolution digital photos (to zoom specific areas of the classroom podium, blackboard and projector screen -if any) and
  3. classroom audio (without the need to wear a microphone).

EyA stands for “Enhance your Audience”. It is being used to record continuosly, complete maths and physics courses within the ICTP Diploma Programme as can be see at www.ictp.tv -EyA recordings of International conferences (with parallel sessions), seminars, talks, etc can be found here. openEyA can be used in e-learning as content producer.

openEyA (and EyA) allows to archive and share traditional (scientific) lectures and talks carried out using, e.g., very large chalkboards found in classrooms and/or using modern presentations (PPT, PDF, animations, etc). It is innovative. It has these main features:

  • no dedicated human intervention during recording and post-processing (no need for an operator or editor); The automated audio-video-slides synchronization is done in few minutes.
  • scalable architecture and portable (from one classroom to many);
  • no special requirements for the speaker or lecturer (no need to press buttons during the lecture or to wear a microphone, etc) ;
  • high resolution of zoomable images; space disk is saved by cropping pictures when processing the synchronized audio-video-slides openEyA recordings. Duplicated photos, or photos that have slighltly changed, are automatically discarded. Furthermore, Photos can easily be straighten out.
  • low total cost of hardware implementation;

A key issue to carry out massive digital lectures recordings (besides to store, manage and share them), is to automate as much as possible the production and post-production processes to pull down all the costs. openEyA satisfies all these requirements in a way that has yet no similar.
